Argentine players namely Enzo Fernandez find themselves in trouble over racist chants. The incident occurred when the Argentina team threw a few racist slurs at a few French players over their background. Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez could be seen hurling racist slurs during an Instagram live after Argentina won COPA America 2024. 

Leandro Paredes has come out and supported Enzo Fernandez during his chat with Albiceleste Talk. The Argentine player said that he had watched the entire clip and has put his weight behind the Chelsea star. 

The 30-year-old while speaking to Albiceleste Talk said “I think this scandal was created out of nothing because we have a way of experiencing football that is very different from others, obviously without intending to disrespect anyone, without even having the slightest thought of doing so."

Leandro Paredes speaks out Enzo Fernandez controversy 

Despite all the flak that Enzo Fernandez is getting 30-year-old Leandro Paredes went onto say “We are not a racist country. We have an incredible group of players who have a lot of respect for everyone. As Enzo said on his Instagram, he apologized, and I believe it should end there”

Argentina went onto win the 2024 COPA America after beating Colombia in the final with 1-0 margin. Lautaro Martinez scored the winner in the 112th minute of the game. One of the biggest moments of the game was when Lionel Messi was seen crying on the touchline after being forced out of the game due to injury in the 1st half. 

Paredes said “When Messi got injured, It was a difficult situation; I tried not to look at him so I wouldn't get emotional. I told him not to cry and to stay calm because he had given everything, that he was an example”

The Argentine star also said “The important thing is that we achieved our goal. What De Paul said that we wanted to win it 'for Messi' is how we all felt. He is our captain, and we wanted to bring him joy." The title win also meant that Lionel Messi has now won 45 individuals titles the most by an player in football history.
