The French Football Federation (FFF) and Vice President Victoria Villarruel got into a spat on Wednesday over the release of a video featuring racist chanting that was posted by Argentine national team member Enzo Fernández following his country's Copa América 2024 victory.

Victoria Villarruel took to twitter and posted a message boasting with nationalism as she wrote, "No colonialist country is going to intimidate us with a song from the stadium or for telling the truths that they don't want to admit."

Days prior to the meeting involving President Javier Milei and his French equivalent, Emmanuel Macron, Villarruel made remarks disparaging France. The Vice-President said, "Argentina is a sovereign and free country. We never had colonies or second-class citizens. We never imposed our way of life on anyone. But we will not tolerate them doing the same to us either. Argentina was made with the sweat and courage of Indians, Europeans, Creoles and blacks like Remedios del Valle, Sergeant Cabral and Bernardo de Monteagudo."

She added, "Enough of pretending to be indignant, hypocrites. Enzo, I support you, Messi, thank you for everything! Argentines always with their heads held high! Long live Argentinity."

“I think the captain of the national team should come out and apologize” : Julio Garro

The Vice-President’s remarks followed hours after Julio Garro, the nation's undersecretary of sports, recommended that Lionel Messi, the skipper of the national team, issue an apology for the taunts directed at the French team for their 2022 FIFA World Cup defeat.

He said, "I think the captain of the national team should come out and apologize for this case , as should the president of the AFA. I think it is the right thing to do. It is something that leaves us, as a country, in a bad position, with so much glory. I think that this can be taken to an exemplary level as well. It is very good and is done a lot in our country and in the world."
