Dani Olmo’s registration became a key focus leading up to Barcelona’s first match of 2025, as La Liga was unable to provide the player with the necessary approval to play due to a missed deadline.

While this posed a challenge for Joan Laporta’s board, the club president took proactive steps and successfully secured Olmo’s registration through a precautionary measure granted by the CSD.

Laporta recently addressed the situation surrounding the player's registration during a media interaction, providing clarity on the events that unfolded. However, there remains uncertainty as Laliga is seeking to address the matter further.

Laliga President expressed his views on Olmo's contract

In a media briefing earlier this week, La Liga president Javier Tebas expressed his concerns regarding the Dani Olmo registration situation, depicting his reservations about the CSD's involvement and the decision to allow Barcelona to register the player.

In discussing the CSD’s decision to grant both players their registrations, Tebas emphasized the importance of understanding the relevant rules in this area. He then provided insight from Laliga's perspective, noting that it was Barcelona's responsibility to ensure the deal was completed effectively.

"Government intervention does not give a good image. But we have acted as the rules of both fair play and the federation dictate. The CSD resolution shows that it does not understand how licenses are given. There is an automated process,” he told El Paris.

“What does the monitoring committee do? Study how the situation is, because Barça had made a written request, but the license had already been denied. That’s it. We have filed an appeal with the CSD. We have requested a precautionary measure to have Olmo deregistered... A precautionary measure to annul the previous precautionary measure.” he added.

The Spanish midfielder has scored 6 goals and assisted twice in his 18 appearances for the Catalans across competitions since joining them in 2024. He has grown as a creative playmaker for the side, creating goal-scoring chances from midfield positions. Barcelona heavily relies on his exploits for their success.
