Ahead of the January transfer window, Inter Milan has been linked to a surprise deal for Marco Verratti, a former midfielder for PSG and Italy. According to FCInterNews, Spanish publication Marca reports that the 32-year-old wishes to leave Qatari team Al-Arabi. They do point out, though, that European teams might find his exorbitant salary problematic.
Currently, midfielder Verratti is a member of the Qatar Stars League team Al-Arabi. Last summer, the Italian international left Paris Saint-Germain to join the Qatari team. But things haven't gone as planned for Veratti as well as his present team. Al-Arabi is currently wallowing at the bottom of the top flight standings in Qatar. Verratti thus hopes to go, maybe as early as the transfer window that opened in January.
If Verratti were to return to Europe, Serie A would be his most likely destination, according to Spanish publication Marca. The 32-year-old has not yet played for a side in the Italian top flight, even though he is an Italian player and has played for Pescara in Serie B.
During the summer of 2012, Verratti instead joined PSG. He stayed in the French city for over ten years. But there are still ties to Serie A. Additionally, Marca claims that a surprise January transfer to Inter may be imminent.
How much is Marco Verratti earning currently in Qatar?
In a lucrative €45 million move, Marco Verratti departed the capital club during the summer of 2023 to become part of Al-Arabi in Qatar. After 416 matches, his remarkable journey came to a sudden end. He does, however, like to return to Europe, although Verratti's pay would undoubtedly be a major barrier. With Al-Arabi, the former PSG player makes over €30 million net year.
Given that he hasn't played for Italy after June 2023, this possible comeback may also pave the way for his recall to the national squad. Verratti has made ten appearances for his team this season, contributing three assists and one goal as they struggle for league survival and are now in tenth.
