In an unusual match against Manchester United on Thursday, Tottenham Hotspur nearly blew their League Cup semi-final berth, but manager Ange Postecoglou reacted angrily to suggestions that he should lower his team's entertaining approach. With a 3-0 lead at home against a drab United team after fifty-four minutes, the match ought to have been over.

Despite this, Tottenham Hotspur managed to give United two goals, both of which were the consequence of terrible errors made by goalkeeper Fraser Forster, and they were quite relieved as they won 4-3 thanks to goals from Dominic Solanke twice, Dejan Kulusevski once, and Son Heung-min straight from a corner.  Tottenham briefly appeared to have a chance to duplicate their previous home victory over Chelsea, in which they led 2-0 before losing 4-3.

If it had occurred, Ange Postecoglou, who remains true to his attacking philosophy no matter what would have been under more pressure. He even went so far as to ask Forster, the reserve goalkeeper, who is uncomfortable playing out from the back, to make short passes. When questioned by Sky Sports following the game, Ange Postecoglou seemed prepared for the line of questioning.

"I like the whole game. Are you not entertained? I know the studio is probably having a meltdown over my lack of tactics," Ange Postecoglou said. "I really liked how we played tonight, obviously those moments tainted it a bit and that has happened this season before and it doesn't help out consistency, but the mentality of the boys... I love it."

Tottenham Hotspur last won trophy in 2008

Tottenham, who have scored 36 goals in 16 games, are arguably the most entertaining team in the Premier League, but their risk-taking style has worn down even fans' patience, as evidenced by the club's motto, "to dare is to do." Despite this, former Celtic manager Postecoglou says he will not alter his strategy. Consistency has been a problem for Spurs in 2024–25, as they are currently 10th in the Premier League table, but they are only five points outside of the top four and are attempting to win their first trophy since 2008.
