'I feel at home..' - Joshua Kimmich opens up on his contract extension with Bayern Munich

Joshua Kimmich's contract with Bayern Munich has been extended until 2029, ensuring his future in Bavaria for an additional four years. The German international has now committed to staying at Bayern for the long run, even though his previous contract was scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign.  Since joining Bayern in 2015, the Germany skipper has won eight Bundesliga championships and the 2020 Champions League.  

After signing the contract with Bayern Munich Joshua Kimmich feels Bayern Munich has "the best environment to achieve my sporting goals." “For me at the moment, there is no better package of team-mates, coaching staff, and club environment to achieve maximum success. I feel at home here and I am not finished yet.”

The 30-year-old midfielder had made references to extending his contract following Bayern's 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, which guaranteed them a spot in the Champions League quarterfinals. Kimmich has found his greatest form under Vincent Kompany, despite earlier rumors that he was leaving.

Many people believe that Kimmich, who is currently captain of the German national team, is the logical replacement for Bayern's veteran captain Manuel Neuer. Before the 2015–16 season, Kimmich left VfB Stuttgart to join the German record champions after spending two years at RB Leipzig.  He has scored 43 goals and 115 assists in 429 competitive games for the Munich team so far.

Since joining German giants Bayern Munich, Joshua Kimmich has won eight Bundesliga titles, three DFB Cup, six DFL Supercup, UEFA Champions League and a FIFA Club Cup. Since making his debut in May 2016, he has earned 97 caps for the German national team, scoring seven goals. Since last year, he has been wearing the captain's armband for his nation.

With eight points separating them from the reigning champions, Leverkusen, Bayern is poised to win the Bundesliga again. This season's final is scheduled for May in Munich, and their next big test will be against Inter Milan in the Champions League quarterfinals.
