Lamine Yamal faces injury (Source: X)
Barcelona's teen sensation, Lamine Yamal, is set to undergo scans to asses an ankle injury that may affect his participation in this week's crucial match against Atletico Madrid.
The 17-year-old player encountered the injury during Sunday’s surprising 1-0 loss to Leganes in La Liga. A hard tackle from Yvan Neyou caused Yamal an injury 20 minutes into the game. Despite receiving treatment and trying to push through, he was ultimately substituted in the 74th minute due to ongoing pain.
Barcelona has been out of form in the Spanish League, having secured victory in only one of their last six league matches. With competition intensifying, Yamal's injury comes at a challenging time for the team.
The club is closely monitoring Yamal's condition and suspects he may have a sprain. Further evaluations will provide clarity on the injury's severity. Yamal has previously dealt with a similar ankle issue this season, which caused him to miss some matches. There are concerns that this latest injury might keep him sidelined again, especially with a crucial matchup against Atletico on the horizon.
Atletico Madrid is right now the team in form having clinched victories in their last 11 matches across all competitions. They are joint at the top of the La Liga standings alongside Barcelona.
With Yamal likely out, Ferran Torres will most likely take up the right flank, and Dani Olmo should also be a key consideration for a shift in the attacking midfield. Yamal's void is not an easy one to fill since the young sensation has been a pivotal player this season, scoring six goals and assisting 12 times in just 20 appearances.
