Prior to his trial on allegations of sexual assault while intoxicated, French soccer star Wissam Ben Yedder will remain free, an attorney for him told The Associated Press on Wednesday. Following a woman's lawsuit for alleged sexual assault a month ago, Marie Roumiantseva announced that Ben Yedder will continue to be closely monitored by the court.

Following the reported altercation in his vehicle on the French Riviera, 34-year-old Ben Yedder, the productive goalscorer in the French league, was taken into custody before being freed. Police had stopped Ben Yedder after he had initially declined to do so. After that, he was placed in a cell.

The prosecutor's office in Nice challenged the decision to not remand the footballer in detention after he had been placed in judicial supervision and given a court summons in October. Ben Yedder remained under judicial supervision after the Court of Appeal of Aix-en-Provence's investigation chamber denied his appeal.

Ben Yedder made an offer to enter rehab during a hearing on Tuesday. He has acknowledged that he drove while intoxicated, but he has refuted any sexual assault. Ben Yedder was accused of "rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault" in a different court proceeding last year in relation to a different alleged event that occurred in France. After the end of the previous season, Ben Yedder's contract with Monaco expired, leaving him without a club.

Wissam Ben Yedder’s stellar record for AS Monaco

The French international attacker has made a name for himself as one of the AS Monaco all-time leading scorers in just five years and 201 games. Wissam Ben Yedder is merely ranked second on this esteemed list, with 118 goals, behind Delio Onnis (223 goals).

The France international, who made 19 games for Les Bleus was a great option for Didier Deschamps. After Radamel Falcao left in the summer of 2019, he had proven to be an exceptional finisher and technician on the Rock with remarkable consistency.
