France edged out against Austria in their opening game of the UEFA Euro 2024. In the match, the Les Blues captain Kylian Mbappe was forced off the field as he suffered a nose injury and was not able to continue for the final 9 minutes of the game. There was a bit of turmoil while he was outside the treatment as the team was playing with 10 men.

The substitute was also not ready to come on and he decided to return to the pitch and was also booked for wasting the time. The incident occurred from a free kick delivered by Antoine Griezmann during the 85th minute, and while heading the ball, his nose collided with Danso. The medical team of France was soon inside the field to attend to their star player, whose white shirt was quickly stained red with his blood.

The 25-year-old helped France score the only goal of the game as his cross was deflected by Maximilian Wober and ended up as his own goal. He has been unable to score his first goal at the European Championships. He was then replaced by Olivier Giroud for the remaining time of the game.

He will not undergo surgery in the immediate future: France Football Federation

An update about the seriousness of the injury has been provided by the France Football Federation. The statement read, "Kylian Mbappe returns to the base camp of the French national team. He suffered a broken nose during the second part of the Austria-France held this Monday in Düsseldorf."

"The captain of France was treated first by the medical staff and Dr Franck Le Gall, who diagnosed him with a nose fracture. Mbappé will receive treatment in the next few days, but he will not undergo surgery in the immediate future. A mask will be made for him so that the number 10 of the French national team can prepare for his return to the competition after a period dedicated to treatment."
