Celtic footballer Landry Nguemo has passed away at the age of 38. The Cameroon international after being involved in a tragic car accident in his country was found dead. The defensive midfielder was part of two World Cups for the nation in 2010 and 2014. He has been one of the talents in African football as well. He was also part of the squad that lost to Egypt in the final of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nguemo spent the 2009-10 season on loan at Celtic from French club Nancy and played under managers Tony Mowbray and Neil Lennon and made 43 appearances for the club in the very season. The midfielder won the French League Cup with Nancy in 2006, having joined the club's academy five years prior. He subsequently moved to France before playing 148 times for their first team.
He was there with Celtic after the Scottish club could have negotiations going well with the French club to sign him permanently. Then he returned to his parent club once the Scottish campaign ended. He subsequently spent one more year with Nancy before joining Ligue 1 rivals Bordeaux.
Nguemo passes away before the time
After spending three years in the south of France, Nguemo went on to play for Saint-Etienne and two Turkish clubs, Akhisar Belediyespor, and Kayserispor, before finishing his career with Norwegian club Kongsvinger in 2019. As reported by the Cameroon football chiefs he passed away on Thursday.
The footballer started his coaching career a few years back in 2020. He was the manager of French minnows COS Villers-les-Nancy. At the time of his death, he was working as a coach at Nancy's youth academy. The African footballers have been shocked by the sudden demise of the footballer.
Celtic added in a statement of their own via their website: "Everyone at Celtic Football Club is shocked and saddened at the news of Landry N'Guemo's passing at the young age of 38. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic Football Club are with Landry's family and friends at this sad time."
