Bayern Munich have completed the signing of their new head coach Vincent Kompany. The Belgian manager has pen downed three years of contract with the club till 2027. He replaces Thomas Tuchel at the Allianz Arena, with the German coach failing to secure a trophy with the club in the 2023/24 season ending an 11-year streak of winning the Bundesliga. The management shortlisted some managers when they knew that the former Chelsea man would not stay, but got rejected by all of the names they listed.
The former Burnley manager was the front-runner in the last few days and on Wednesday he officially travelled to Germany to sign all the contract papers. The English Premier League club which was recently relegated earned €10-12M transfer fee for the manager. The 38-year-old manager will be needing to fill in huge shoes at the Allianz Arena as he is still a young manager and the club management will also look up to him.
Before joining the Bavarians, the former footballer was praised by his former manager Pep Guardiola, as the Spanish manager believed that the former defender could manage a big club in the future and he also wanted him to manage Manchester City in the upcoming future.
Guardiola suggested Kompany in Bayern
Guardiola even before the deal was done, talked with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge for the appointment of Kompany as their new manager, and speaking to SKY Sports he said, "It was Guardiola who recommended the choice. He did us a great favour. He had him as captain at City and also followed him when he was at Burnley. Pep knows Vincent well and his opinion is very highly regarded by us."
Kompany received praise for his side's attacking style of play when managing Burnley in the EPL last season, but the squad was relegated after being second-to-last. He is no stranger to the Bundesliga after playing for Hamburg. Bayern did not get their first-choice target, but the Belgian is a brave decision from the club. They will have to allow him time to make things right and assist Bayern achieve success in Germany and Europe.
