During the most recent episode of his La Posesion podcast on Monday night, SPORT reporter David Bernabeu said that FC Barcelona will not be returning to its famous Spotify Camp Nou stadium this season. Bernabeu cited unidentified sources to support his story.
After Barcelona's most recent La Liga-winning campaign under former head coach Xavi Hernandez ended in the spring of 2023, the stadium was closed. Since then, there have been many false dawns in relation to reopening dates, and Camp Nou is presently undergoing renovations to accommodate 105,000 people.
As Barca temporarily utilizes the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, many are unhappy about having to climb up Montjuic Hill and all the issues that come with it. As a result, it was anticipated that the Culers would be able to meet their new home in November, which also happens to be the club's 125th anniversary.
Neither that nor a February date succeeded. But in that latter month, the team did affirm that it had already begun the stadium grass installation process, which typically takes ten weeks to finish. This implied that a return for a fictitious first leg of the Champions League semifinals was suggested for April 29 or 30. Additionally, a potential title-race-deciding El Clasico matchup against Real Madrid on May 10 at Camp Nou in front of an initial 60,000 spectators was a tantalizing prospect.
UEFA is putting pressure on the club
Barcelona may suffer significant financial consequences as a result of this, as they continue to miss out on the potential money from the renovated Spotify Camp Nou.By requesting a report on the project by March 31, UEFA is putting pressure on the club. However, unless something extraordinary occurs, the team will not be returning to Camp Nou this season, as was previously stated.
