According to the most recent reports out of Catalonia, Barcelona believes they are just one step closer to signing Athletic Club and Spain sensation Nico Williams. The winner of Euro 2024 is presently vacationing in Ibiza, but Athletic manager Ernesto Valverde has stated that he anticipates Williams returning to the training field on August 12.

Many top journalists have confirmed that FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with the agent of Nico Williams. The only major standpoints are to get the green signal from the player and then the club can proceed to discuss a fee with the parent club of the Spanish winger. It doesn't feel like getting the personal terms agreed with the player would be an issue considering the fact that he would be playing alongside his best friend Lamine Yamal.

According to reports, FC Barcelona feels they have enough money to make a deal for Williams and anticipates receiving approval from La Liga to sign Williams "nearly immediately." Although the Blaugrana have assured Williams' camp that this won't be a problem, it is one of the concerns their camp has with the transfer. Athletic Club would ideally want full payment for the player instead of recurring payments.

What is holding the Nico Williams’ move to FC Barcelona?

According to numerous reports, FC Barcelona is waiting on Williams' answer to their offer, stating that it is considered the last step in closing the deal. Williams is the player they hope to sign during the summer transfer window. After that, they plan to go after Mikel Merino and Dani Olmo in that order.

It should be mentioned that there are still reports from media outside of Catalonia indicating that Williams' signing requires either a significant sale or another commercial arrangement. Barcelona must comply with Williams' €58 million release clause in order to complete the trade, however Chelsea and Arsenal are still interested parties and don't seem to be planning to move on him anytime soon.
