Belgium met Slovakia in their first game of the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024. The Red Flames have gone through massive transition after their golden generation period ended. Only two players Romelu Lukaku, Yannick Carrasco, and Kevin De Bruyne are present in the team. They started the match well and had chances in the early stages of the game with Lukaku failing twice inside the first 10 minutes.

The underdogs took their chance as they scored inside the first quarter of the game after Jeremy Doku gave the ball away inside his half and Ivan Schranz scored inside 7 minutes and broke the deadlock for the match. The first-time strike was parried by Koen Casteels, but it fell straight to Schranz and he slotted in the rebound from the tightest of angles.

The Repre controlled the game after scoring and tried to take the insurance goal. However, the Belgian team tried their best to get the equalising and they failed after the former Chelsea striker missed the golden opportunities. The first half ended 1-0 thanks to the strong left hand of the Belgian keeper to deny Haraslin who struck a volley from inside the box.

Belgium fails to break Slovakia's defence

Domenico Tedesco’s side was much better in the second half, as they found the back of the net with their No.10 scoring the goal in the 57th minute of the game however it was ruled out due to Lukaku being offside while the head fell into his feet. Belgium kept on the pressure despite the attacks of Slovakia, and they yet again scored after Luis Openda’s low cross was struck inside the net by the AS Roma striker.

The goal was again ruled out after Openda handled the ball before passing the ball to the 31-year-old striker. But the handball from the RB Leipzig winger was a controversial one that has been ruled out as the handball was an unintentional one. Both teams return to action on Friday. Slovakia meets Ukraine in Dusseldorf, while Belgium takes on Romania in Koln.
