Paris Saint-Germain faced off against Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final at Parc des Princes. The home side came to the game with 0-1 behind after they lost the reverse fixture at Signal Iduna Park. Luis Erique’s side started better in the game as they were behind in the game creating the opportunity to score. They had better control of the midfield, but the one pass in the final third was missing.
However after soaking in the pressure the German side was good in the counter attacks with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Karim Adeyemi as the pacey wingers created some troubles in the defensive half of the French club. Gianluigi Donnarumma made one big save after the latter was through on the counter. The first half of the game ended 0-0 with both sides failing to capitalise on the chances.
PSG started the second half better, but the luck was not in their side as they struck the post after Warren Zaire Emery missed from the blank range to put his side ahead on the night. However the visitors took their chance and scored the goal after center back Mats Hummels broke the deadlock in the 50th minute of the game from a well measured corner of Julian Brandt. Adeyemi was taken off soon after they scored for Marco Reus in the 56th minute of the game. The home side kept on piling the pressure as Nuno Mendes’s shot struck the post.
PSG fails yet again in a important game
The home side looked dangerous after Dortmund turned out defensive and was compact in the defence despite the pressure from the French champions. The manager made some changes by bringing on Bradley Barcola and Marco Asensio. Mbappe had a chance but his shot was cleared off the line. Vitinha’s shot yet again struck the upper side of the post, thrice for the side on the night.
Hummels was yet again named as the Player of the Match for his amazing display in the defence and scoring the all important goal that turned out to be the winner for the side. The German was brilliant and did not let Kylian Mbappe go past him for most of the game and did some excellent blocks and interceptions in the backline.
