Arsenal hosted Aston Villa in matchday 32, on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium. The home side was coming after a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals 1st leg. They had the chance of securing the top spot by winning the game, but they failed to do so as they lost to the fourth-placed team by 2-0 with Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins scoring two late goals for the side and almost destroying Arsenal’s hope for the Premier League title.

The game started with the Gunners being the favourites of winning the game as they had not lost a single game since the start of 2024 before the game on Sunday. They will remain in the second spot with two points from current league leaders Manchester City. The game was evenly poised in the first half as the two teams could not capitalise on their chances. The home side had controlled much of the game without creating many quality chances, and Villa looked threatening on the counterattacks.

Unai Emery the former Arsenal coach has done a double this season by beating his former team. Mikel Arteta will be furious after losing the game with an all-important game coming up on Wednesday against Bayern Munich. This was the Gunners's first loss since the start of 2024.

The home side was denied by their former goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez who made some brilliant saves in the game and had a fantastic comeback at the Emirates. The Argentine shot-stopper was at his best on Sunday as he did not let any shot go past inside the net. The home side's loss will be a big one as they failed to secure the top spot and remain second with 32 matches being played.

After the game, Arteta said, "We need to react, we had an opportunity to react against Bayern. This was going to happen at some stage with the games we have. Now it’s how we react. What you can control is how you’re going to feel now."
