Manchester United struggled in the 2023/24 season as they failed to reach the top 4 of the English Premier League and finished 8th in the table losing 14 games. This was the most by the club in a single season and they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League group stage after finishing at the bottom of the table. The Red Devils failed to qualify for the UCL last season but entered the UEFA Europa League group stage after winning the FA Cup final.

After their poor season, the INEOS management decided to re-shuffle the squad and listed some big names that are up for sale in the upcoming transfer window. Some footballers are also leaving the club, with the management deciding to go with Erik ten Hag for the forthcoming season. The head coach has demanded three things before the season begins.

There were speculations that the 54-year-old manager would be sacked by Sir Jim Ratcliffe who handles the Football Operations for the club. There were some names on their list with Thomas Tuchel running ahead of everyone to become the manager for the 2024/25 season they contacted Mauricio Pochettino after the Argentinian left Chelsea. Amidst all these rumours and talks the management has shown faith in the former Ajax coach.

Manchester United have told me: Erik ten Hag

Taking about the coaches' rumours the manager said, "Manchester United have told me that they spoke with Tuchel. But they eventually came to the conclusion that they already have the best manager. INEOS took their time. They are new in football, it's normal to reflect the season. It's no secret that they talked with multiple candidates."

Ten Hag said: "Pre-season is for preparing and we have to make that our next step. It is one of the only times you have the team together and can work on structures and standards. We’ll be as strong as possible but, of course, the players who go far in the Copa America and the Euros will not be involved."
