Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr is reportedly planning a heist move for Manchester City's defensive midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
According to The Sun, Al-Nassr has been actively observing Mateo Kovacic's performance with the aim of bringing him on board as a standout addition to their team. However, as of now, no formal proposal has been submitted. A primary challenge in advancing this potential transfer is Manchester City's requirement to identify a suitable replacement for the former Chelsea midfielder before permitting his departure.
Manchester City is currently focused on enhancing their midfield options and is not looking to transfer Kovacic. The club has expressed interest in Juventus star Douglas Luiz; however, discussions regarding a loan arrangement have faced some challenges due to differing views between the two teams.
Cristiano Ronaldo's side keen to onboard Kovacic
Al-Nassr initially planned to secure the signing of Kovacic before the summer transfer window closed but faced troubles with their foreign player quota that hindered the completion of the deal. Nevertheless, the club remains ambitious and is setting its sights on further strengthening the team. Reports suggest that Al-Nassr is preparing a mammoth £140 million effort to target several high-profile players from the Premier League ahead of the Saudi transfer deadline.
Aston Villa's Jhon Duran is a prime target, and he is on the verge of sealing a £64 million move to Riyadh. The Colombian striker will travel to Saudi Arabia on Friday to undergo his medical examination and finalize the contract, joining Ronaldo in Al-Nassr's dynamic attacking lineup. Additionally, Al-Nassr has aggressively pursued Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma, submitting a staggering £90 million bid for the talented Japanese winger.
Al-Nassr's pursuit of Premier League stars underscores their commitment to enhancing their squad with elite talent. Following the signing of Ronaldo, they have yet to dominate the Saudi top flight.
