Canada’s soccer body starts investigation after player is racially abused online

There is a massive storm brewing in Canadian soccer after their loss to Argentina in their opening game of Copa America 2024. According to reports, the Canadian authorities have already spoken to FIFA about the issue after the issue which happened. 

The player who suffered the online racial abuse is yet to be named. Moise Bombito too had come in for harsh abuse after he had put in a strong tackle on Argentina superstar Lionel Messi. The Inter Miami FC player had suffered a slight knock on his ankle but continued after a brief breather. 

Canadian Football put out a statement which read “Canada Soccer is aware of and deeply disturbed by racist comments made online and directed at one of our men’s national team players following tonight’s match”  

The statement went onto read “we are in communication with CONCACAF and CONMEBOL about this matter”. Meanwhile, Bombito took to Twitter and wrote “My beautiful Canada, no room for such BS”

Argentina begins their COPA America in strong fashion 

It wasn’t an easy game for Argentina as they had to meet a resolute Canadian side which they found tough to break. Lionel Messi had to bring all his experience into play as he was the main reason why his team could score twice. 

The veteran star had a clever interplay with Alexis MacAllister before Julian Alvarez slotted the ball home. The second goal also came courtesy of an assist from Messi as Lautaro Martinez scored the winner. 

Lionel Messi is set to turn 37 on Monday and is in the twilight of his career. Despite this the former Barcelona and PSG man has been putting stirring performances on the field of play. 

The next round of matches will witness Peru take on Canada while Chile will meet Argentina. And in the final round of games, Argentina will meet Peru with the Chileans taking on Canada. 

Brazil will begin their campaign against Colombia while hosts USA will take on Bolivia in their 1st game of the campaign. The last COPA America tournament in 2021 was won by Argentina as they defeated Brazil in the finals.
