Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been in talks with Besiktas. The former Red Devils forward flew to Istanbul for talks with the Super Lig giants last December, but there has not been any finalisation. He has not been under any team since he was sacked by United in November 2021. With the experience of coaching in the best league in the world, the Turkish club will look up to him for a managerial role.

The Norwegian manager has been linked with several clubs since he was sacked, both domestically and at the international level. However, he has not agreed to terms with any of the listed clubs and nations. In last December he rejected a one-and-a-half-year contract with the Black Eagles club. But his choice has not stopped their curiosity, and the club's hierarchy believes he is the ideal Fernando Santos successor.

The 51-year-old will be taking some time as the Red Devils are also in search of a new coach as per the latest rumours, as they decided not to retain Erik ten Hag for the upcoming season. He has been eyeing for a possible return to Old Trafford. With the transfer window still to open he will hope to return to coaching in the next season.

Is Solskjaer hopeful for a return to Man United?

The Turkish club won the Turkish Cup, they finished sixth and were turned down by well-known coaches, including former Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders. And the club's hierarchy wants to turn things around soon after rivals Fenerbahce announced Jose Mourinho as their new coach.

Solskjaer also explained, the situation of the Man United after he left the club and believes it has gone down stating, "I felt a lot needed to be changed. We’ve signed four players and a few and promoted from within, lots of youngsters. I don’t know how dramatic those changes have been. I don’t think it feels dramatic for the squad and the ones that were here. We needed certain pieces in the puzzle and they’ve worked. I’m a red and I think I know what this club needs."
