Gavi, the Barcelona midfield prodigy, is poised to make his comeback to football right after the international break following almost a year out. The 20-year-old La Masia sensation has been training diligently with the group for the past month and recently took part in a mini-training match earlier this week to gain some valuable minutes on the pitch.
Gavi will feature for Barcelona very soon
Gavi will likely be included in the matchday squad for Barcelona’s upcoming La Liga game against Sevilla on October 20, marking his return after almost a year.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will have more reason to celebrate on the day of the midfielder's return. In addition to Gavi's highly anticipated comeback, the club will also receive a financial boost of over €6 million on the same day.
The compensation will be provided by FIFA as part of their club protection program to cover the extended absence of the young midfielder.
Following the midfielder's 28-day injury, on December 16, 2023, the program was activated. FIFA provides a maximum compensation of €7.5 million for each player who is injured. He is compensated on a daily rate of up to €20,548, which is payable for a maximum of 365 days. It is determined using the fixed salary paid to Gavi by Barcelona and does not include any variable components.
Gavi will have been absent for 307 days on October 19, just one day before the team’s match against Sevilla. Should he get medically cleared on the same day as the fixture, his absence will extend to 308 days.
This situation presents an opportunity for Barcelona to benefit financially, potentially gaining over €6 million due to Gavi’s long-term injury.
With Gavi’s return and the potential financial boost coinciding, Barcelona is in a position to have a double celebration, which could provide a significant morale boost for the entire club.
