Barcelona has conveyed its displeasure with La Liga and criticised President Javier Tebas regarding the release of private information. Laliga President Javier Tebas disclosed confidential financial information about the Catalan club.
FC Barcelona accused the Laliga President of defaming the club. They even asserted the activity to be part of a large campaign directed at tarnishing the image of the club.
Last week, La Liga announced a substantial reduction to Barcelona's salary cap, stating that the club's €100 million from the sale of VIP seats would not be factored into the calculations. This update posed a setback for the Catalan team's summer transfer strategy and raised temporary concerns about the future of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, following the complications surrounding their registrations.
Such behaviour by Laliga drew furious reactions from the club. Barcelona asserted that La Liga and President Tebas had violated their own regulations by making it public.
In a statement, the club expressed their astonishment and outrage following La Liga's publication of the information on April 2, emphasising that they were unaware of it and had not granted permission for its release.
"Furthermore, the Barca club regrets that the published Information Note 'has been the trigger for a large-scale defamation campaign against the club and the president by the media; a campaign that is being used as an excuse to question the legitimacy of the competitive situation of our first team," read Barcelona's statement.
FC Barcelona emphasised that it was inappropriate of Javier Tebas to publicly reveal confidential details of the financial information submitted by the club and the decisions that came thereafter.
"Another reproach that the club makes to LaLiga is due to public statements by its president, Javier Tebas, 'against our players, such as Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor - legally registered as recently reiterated by the Superior Council of Sports in its resolution of 3 April 2025," read Barcelona's statement.
Despite all the noises that are troubling the side off the field, Hansi Flick's men have been the team to watch out for in the current season. The Catalans are vying for a treble this season, with the team being active in all competitions.
