Arsenal have finally signed the highly-rated striker, Viktor Gyokeres, from Portugal’s Sporting CP, as the Premier League side announced on 26 July. According to ESPN, Arsenal have paid €63 million ($74m) plus €10m ($11.7m) in add-ons to land Gyokeres on a five-year contract. The deal was finalised after lengthy negotiations between the two clubs. With the addition of Gyokeres, Gunners fans will now hope for some silverware in the upcoming season.

In a statement, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta shared his excitement over the new signing, saying: "We're absolutely delighted to welcome Viktor Gyokeres to the club. The consistency he has shown in his performances and availability have been outstanding, and his goal contributions speak for themselves.”

"Viktor has so many qualities. He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goalscoring numbers at club and international levels. Manchester United were reportedly linked with Gyokeres over a potential move

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta also sounded pleased with the signing, saying: "We are so pleased with the excellent deal we have completed to bring Viktor Gyokeres to the club. Viktor is an exceptional talent and has consistently demonstrated he has the qualities and winning mentality required of a top-level center forward. His physicality, intelligence and work ethic make him a perfect fit for our vision. We are confident Viktor will have a major impact on the pitch and become an important figure in our dressing room."

Gyokeres had a fantastic last season, scoring 54 goals for Sporting CP across all competitions — the most by a player at a top-flight club. Several Saudi clubs and Manchester United were also reportedly linked with him over a potential summer transfer move.
