Alphonso Davies agrees on contract extensions with Bayern Munich amidst Real Madrid's interest

Since the beginning of the season, Bayern Munich has been negotiating the contract renewals of a number of its top players. The first significant contract extension at Bayern is almost complete, marking the culmination of Max Eberl and Christoph Freund's hard work. Despite reports from the local media that negotiations had hit a big roadblock earlier this week, Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies is close to extending his contract with the team, according to reports. 

Madrid has been interested in Alphonso Davies for a while, but it appears they will not be able to get him before his contract expires in 2025. Supporters of Bayern will be relieved by the news, as their transfer head Max Eberl had earlier on Friday cautioned that "patience is not one of my qualities" about negotiations with the Canadian international. Now, Davies will continue his seven-year contract with Munich, where he has established himself as one of the top left-backs in the world of football.

For Bayern Munich losing a player of this caliber on a free transfer would have been disastrous. It is one thing to sell a player in this way, but it would have been even worse to lose them for nothing. Instead of investing a lot of money on a full-back in the summer, Bayern would have had to pay a lot of money for a replacement, potentially bringing them closer to Davies' demands.

Real Madrid who have made it an activity to sign the top players in the world on free transfer, will suffer if they miss out on Davies. Real Madrid mega move last summer as they signed Kylian Mbappe whose contract ended with the Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, they are eager to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold. But currently, Real Madrid has changed their priority to sign Alphonso Davies and now he must focus on winning the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen.
