Al Hilal's chief executive officer, Esteve Calzada, has expressed doubt about the potential signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, labelling it as 'science fiction.' With Ronaldo's £170 million per season contract with Al-Nassr set to expire in 2025, there may be a window of opportunity for Al-Hilal to consider a strategic move to strengthen their roster in time for the upcoming June Club World Cup.
Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi is poised to share the pitch with Cristiano Ronaldo once again, just like during their legendary battles in Spain with Barcelona and Real Madrid. Furthermore, if Messi decides to switch to Al-Hilal, he will go head-to-head with his former team as Al-Hilal has been placed in Group H alongside Real Madrid, RB Salzburg, and Pachuca.
Calzada to turn 'Science Fiction' to reality
In a recent interview with GiveMeSport, Calzada firmly stated that the situation resembles something out of science fiction.
January 2023 marked the last encounter between Ronaldo and Messi. Paris Saint-Germain faced off against the Riyadh All-Stars, representing the Saudi Pro League, which also marked Ronaldo’s debut in Saudi Arabia.
If Ronaldo were to join Al-Hilal, he would have the opportunity to collaborate with talented players like Neymar, Joao Cancelo, and fan-favourite Aleksandr Mitrovic from the Premier League.
Additionally, Calzada addressed speculation regarding Mohamed Salah potentially joining the team after his Liverpool contract concludes next summer. It has been reported that Ronaldo is actively engaged in contract negotiations with his current club, as he feels comfortable in Saudi Arabia and is motivated to achieve the milestone of 1,000 career goals.
“We are not commenting on rumours. We have a policy of not commenting on rumours,” he stated.
"Every side will be strong and is excited to play in this tournament. No one is going to be easy at all. This tournament gives us the opportunity to test our level. We have put together what we believe to be a very strong team. It has been very dominant locally. We are very keen to see what will happen when we play the greatest teams in the world. We plan to come to this tournament with the biggest ambitions." he added.
