Xavi Hernandez applied his name for the role of the Head Coach of the Indian Senior Men's Football Team, as per AIFF. The All India Football Federation's Technical Committee was surprised by it, but had to reject his application. In their statement, AIFF explained rejecting one of the greatest midfielders of all time to be the next Head Coach of the Indian Team.

AIFF shortlisted the trio of Stephen Constantine, Khalid Jamil, and Stefan Tarkovic for the role. AIFF's statement claimed that the Technical Committee informed them of Xavi applying for the role himself through his official handle. AIFF's source claimed that Xavi was interested in the job for which he had applied.

AIFF added that it was difficult to get Xavi onboard for the role of the Indian Head Coach. The statement added that Xavi is one of the greatest midfielders of all time and regarded him to be in the league of Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi, which made his selection difficult due to the budget constraints.

"However, those tasked with the responsibility of recommending the short-list of coaches to the executive committee for final approval federation knows that it's difficult. You understand that Xavi is one of the greatest midfielders of all time. People talk about Messi all the time, but he, along with Andres Iniesta, are right up there as far as Barcelona is concerned. So, yes, it is what it is," AIFF's statement added.
