Free Fire India release expected soon? (Image - Garena)
One of the most popular Battle Royale games in India, Free Fire was all set to make a comeback similar to BGMI last year in September. Sadly, it was delayed as the developers of Garena were setting up servers in India and localizing the game. Now, after over a year of delay, the game is rumoured to launch in 2025.
These speculations arose after several job listings for India were posted on Garena’s LinkedIn page. These included esports broadcast and marketing, data analysis, graphics designer, senior programmer and a few others. This points out that the company is all set to bring the game to India.

One thing to note is that similar to BGMI, the new Free Fire India will also be specific to the country, meaning players will likely match with players in India only. As for the release date, there is no official information or announcement from Garena, however, the release is expected sometime in the first half of 2025.

More opportunities for Indian esports scene?
Free Fire, along with several other mobile applications, were banned back in 2022 due to security reasons. Surprisingly, Free Fire Max was not and is still available in the Indian market, but sadly, there wasn’t a huge esports scene.
While there are advantages and disadvantages of having a localized version of the game, at the moment having a bigger esports ecosystem is much more important as it will provide more players an opportunity to shine. Furthermore, it will also create good rivalry with BGMI which is currently on top of the esports market.
With the return of Free Fire India, mobile gamers can see some exclusive events, both in-game and on LAN, throughout the year. The hype surrounding the game is already there and those who want to get notified as soon as the game launches can also pre-register on the Google Play Store.
