Yogesh Kathuniya, a distinguished para-athlete and a proud content creator for Carnival Gaming, has once again brought glory to India by securing a silver medal in the men’s discus throw F-56 event at the Paris Paralympics. The 27-year-old showcased his exceptional skill with a season’s best throw of 42.22 meters, earning his second consecutive silver in this prestigious event.

Kathuniya’s podium finish was achieved with a remarkable first attempt that mirrored his stellar performance from the Tokyo Paralympics three years prior. However, despite this achievement, the Indian discus thrower might find himself slightly unsatisfied, given that his winning throw in Tokyo had reached 44.38 meters.

Here is the video:

Brazilian athlete Claudiney Batista dos Santos proved to be an insurmountable competitor, clinching his third consecutive Paralympic gold with a record-breaking throw of 46.86 meters. This was Santos’ second record-breaking attempt of the day, solidifying his dominance in the event. The bronze medal was claimed by Greece’s Konstantinos Tzounis, who managed a best throw of 41.32 meters.

How was Yogesh Kathuniya’s journey?

Kathuniya's journey to Paralympic glory is nothing short of inspirational. At just nine years old, he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder that left him wheelchair-bound during his childhood.

However, with the unwavering support of his mother, Meena Devi, who took it upon herself to learn physiotherapy, Kathuniya regained the strength to walk again. His father, who served in the Indian Army, also played a pivotal role in his recovery and later athletic career.

A commerce graduate from Kirori Mal College in Delhi, Kathuniya has not only made a mark on the global athletic stage but has also become a significant figure in the gaming community. In May 2024, he joined Carnival Gaming as a content creator, where he streams BGMI on various social media platforms, inspiring many with his dual talents.

In addition to his Paralympic successes, Kathuniya’s athletic career boasts three World Championship medals: two silver and one bronze. Despite his commendable achievements, Kathuniya remains driven to push his limits and continue making India proud on the international stage.
