Each year, thousands of video games enter the market, but only a few catch the eyes of gamers. These games are usually developed or published by big companies and are backed by huge marketing. However, a lot of games by indie studios also manage to grab everyone’s attention.
Regardless of how they came to be the most anticipated games, each month has its own list. With July dominated by The First Descendant, Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail and Zenless Zone Zero, it’s time to check major releases for August.
Here are the popular releases for August 2024
5. Cygni: All Guns Blazing
Sci-fi Shoot-em Ups by big publishers are almost non-existent in today's game industry, but Konami is taking this risk with Cygni: All Guns Blazing, developed by KeelWorks. The game is a top-down arcade space shooter that gives vibes to old NES games like Gun-Nac.
Releasing quite early on August 6, the game may have slipped under the radar of many due to so many upcoming AAA game releases. However, those who love bullet hell Shoot-em Up style games will most likely have a fun time.
4. Concord
An early look at Concord felt like multiple arena shooters mashed together in a single game. The game is set to release on 23 Aug and feels like it aims to compete with games like Overwatch 2. The game is developed by Firewalk Studios and also features ex-Bungie developers who worked on Destiny.
It was also quite clear with some of the character abilities and gameplay style. There is, however, just one little problem that many players have voiced. In a market full of free-to-play titles, Concord comes with a price tag of $40 that can push back a lot of players.
3. Madden NFL 25
Even with Yearly releases, sports games remain as popular as ever and August 2024 is bringing the next iteration of Madden NFL. EA SPORTS Madden NFL 25 is set to release on August 16 and is up there with games like EA FC and NBA 2K.
A common complaint for sports games each year is the lack of content, however, having a yearly release cycle could be the biggest culprit here. Regardless of complaints, these games sell like hotcakes, which justifies only minor changes each year.
2. Star Wars Outlaws
Another entry into the Star Wars video game franchise, this time by Ubisoft, will be following the Ubisoft trademark open-world theme. The game is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and will follow the original story of Kay Vess.
The release date is set for August 30 and will see a Ubisoft Store exclusive release. This, however, can make things complicated as the game has to face tough competition for one of the most anticipated games of 2024.
1. Black Myth: Wukong
The most anticipated game of 2024, Black Myth: Wukong follows a fantasy realm featuring the Monkey King ‘Sun Wukong’ based on the Chinese mythology Journey to the West. At first look at the game, fans will immediately tell that it features a Souls-like theme, resembling Sekiro.
There have been some controversies for the game regarding delays for Xbox consoles and other things in the mix, but fans remain excited about the game. The game will be releasing 20 August and is expected to steal the spotlight from many.
