Valve is once again expanding into the hardware market, this time, with a VR headset. As per new rumors, the company is expected to release its second VR headset by the end of 2025. This will be the second VR device by Valve after the 'Index' which was praised by many. Leaks regarding the device were already floating around for the last few months.
First posted by Data Miner ‘Gabe Follower’ who provides various updates on games and hardware by Valve. As per the individual, the VR headset will cost $1,200, a slight increase from its previous entry, and will run on the new SteamOS which became very popular right after its release. The image also showcases the design of the headset and controllers.
“Several people have confirmed that Valve is aiming to release a new standalone, wireless VR headset (codename Deckard) by the end of 2025. The current price for the full bundle is set to be $1200. Including some "in-house" games (or demos) that are already done. Valve wants to give the user the best possible experience without cutting any costs,” Gabe Follower wrote.
Players expecting a new game with Valve’s VR Headset
The last time people received a VR headset from Valve, the studio released Half-Life Alyx. Both the game and the hardware were highly praised, but not everyone was able to play the game on Valve Index due to the $1,000 price tag. However, it does provide a little hope for a new game in development.
Releasing the hardware without showcasing its capability does not make sense. The post further reports that there are few ‘in-house games’ that will be included with the VR headset bundle. Gabe Follower also reported several mentions of HLX in a recent deadlock update.

Will the $1200 VR Headset be worth purchasing?
The new VR headset is said to be a complete gaming PC in itself, however, most gamers will likely not feel like spending the amount of a VR headset. There are many reasons with one of the biggest being the lack of games in the space. While there are many, the number is significantly low. At the moment, it only seems like for people who have money to spare and love VR gaming.
