One of the biggest releases of 2024, Shadow of the Erdtree for Elden Ring, is just days away. The DLC is set to bring a new area to explore and further expand the Elden Ring lore. However, those who aren’t planning to jump into the new expansion will also be getting several quality-of-life updates.

In a recent post by Elden Ring, the developers have revealed that the game will also get numerous bug fixes, balance adjustments and gameplay features with the Day 1 patch on June 20 regardless of the player purchasing the Expansion.

Developer overview of new features coming with Shadow of the Erdtree

The post highlights some quality-of-life changes like the 'Recent Items' tab for newly acquired items along with a “!” mark in the inventory for new items. Previously, it was quite easy to pick up something and spend a lot of time wondering what was new in the inventory if someone liked to hoard things.

A big change that was requested for quite some time is the Summoning Pools activation. Previously, players had to re-activate all the Summoning Pools in New Game+ if they wanted to play with others. Now, these pools will carry over to NG+.

Furthermore, Summoning Pools can also be activated and deactivated through the new map function menu. While players have been asking for a better co-op gameplay experience, one where the player isn’t returned to their world if they die. For now, it seems we have to make do with the seamless co-op mod.

Players have also received some character customization in the form of five new hairstyles to select from. The customization part was already quite robust and players already had features to mod the game, so this may only appeal to gamers who like to play on the vanilla version of Elden Ring.

These were some of the basic updates, the full patch note will likely reveal many more changes including weapon balances considering we are getting even more types of weapons.
