It seems that there are a lot of players who were waiting for the new Tarkov alternative to land on Steam for easier access. Gray Zone Warfare, which was released on April 30 has reportedly sold over 400,000 copies within two days of release as per the developers.

“We're speechless! In just day 2 of Early Access, we've welcomed 400,000 PMCs to Lamang Island,” the developers wrote in their post thanking all the players for the support.

Players joining in droves

The number shows how many players wanted to experience an open-world extraction shooter game. Paired with the recent Tarkov drama, it seems they opted to choose the safer option. This is also a big deal as the game is only released for Steam.

Another important thing to note is that the sale numbers reached even after the game release to a mixed reception due to some stability and server issues. The game wasn’t perfect, but was good enough with plenty of content, customization and gameplay loop to keep players engaged.

The developers MADFINGER Games have already put out a hotfix to address some issues, including server crashes and anti-cheat issues. More improvement and content addition is expected soon.

There is a small debate regarding the stash size for players purchasing a different version, with some claiming it is a pay-to-win feature. However, most players seem indifferent as they can upgrade in future if needed. Apart from that, anything else isn’t locked behind a paywall.

The gameplay can get intense, especially if a player is jumping alone, as they have to fight off NPCs as well as other players scouring for loot. Being a realistic shooter, the game also expects players to know what they are doing.

Those who are not planning to purchase can wait for another similar game from Morefun Studios called Arena Breakout: Infinite. The game is a PC port of a mobile extraction game and will be free to play on launch.
