The Ganesh Chaturthi is in full swing with people across states celebrating the birthday of Lord Ganesh. These celebrations will continue till Visarjan on September 17. For gamers, however, this is a great opportunity to celebrate the festival dedicated to Lord Ganesh by experiencing some video games with his depiction while having fun.

5. Unrest

Unrest may not be the most well-known game across the board, but it is one of the games that fully implements Indian culture and mythology including references to Lord Ganesh. It is an RPG game focused on talking, and your choices will matter here. There is little to no action as the game is completely narrative-driven. Players who like to get immersed in the story will have a great time.

4. Age of Mythology

As the name suggests, the Age of Mythology series is all about mythical gods. The game is an RTS title with base building and resource management. While Lord Ganesh was not initially present with the release, the game later introduced the god through DLC as a minor deity that can be worshipped for various buffs similar to other gods.

One of the masterpieces from an Indian game development studio, Raji follows a story of a girl searching for her little brother amidst a demon attack following their war with the gods. It is a 3D platformer game with puzzles and intense boss fights and features a depiction of various Hindu gods. The controls can be a bit hard to control sometimes, but the visuals and experience are one of a kind.

Smite is another popular MOBA title with Gods from various cultures, including India. Featuring not one or two, but nine characters from Indian mythology, including Ganesh and even Lord Shiv, the game is an absolute blast for MOBA lovers. The developers recently released Smite 2 which is in early access, but will go free to play on full release.

Possibly most players will see Lord Ganesh as a central point in any video game, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is one of the masterpieces by Naughty Dog. The game features a treasure hunter, Chloe Frazer, searching for the legendary tusk of Ganesh. The game is set on the southwestern coast of the Indian peninsula and is considered one of the best games in the series.

When will India make a game based completely on the culture and mythology?

While the world is making games based on their mythology. The most recent example is Black Myth Wukong based on Chinese Mythology. However, people in India haven’t had a chance to experience a true AAA title or anything on a similar scale based on their gods.

That isn’t to say there won’t be one every, but it will take some time. The government itself have seemingly been motivated to expand on the Indian culture in video games to promote the culture of the country. The upcoming Waves 2025 in which ESFI is taking part seems like a great start, but we will have to wait and see.
