Faze Clan finally put a stop to Team Liquid at the Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Chengdu quarterfinals, however, their opponents did not go down without a fight as Liquid’s improved form was quite apparent across the board and even left Faze fans doubting.
Challenging Faze on their map pick
The first half of the first map went heavily in favour of Faze, as Liquid ended up with a 3-9 score. At this point, the situation was almost hopeless before Liquid started converting and took the game into overtime, impressing everyone. Although Faze managed to clutch out the OT, Liquid did instil fear in their opponents.
With gears shifted, the following map saw a decent first half, with Faze leading by a bit. Liquid then returned the favour in a dominating second half, ending the match in their favour. NAF was one of the most consistent players for the team across all maps.
The decider saw Liquid make a huge blunder. After securing the pistol round, they lost a force buy on the defending side, breaking their economy for the next few rounds. Despite that, the team managed to bounce back to a decent half.
While Liquid lost the decider and the series, they did manage to showcase the team’s potential to reach great heights if they keep this up.
Faze moves to the semis
With the win, Faze now moves to the semifinals against Australis, who have also seen some new additions and changes in in-game leadership similar to Liquid. Device who is currently the in-game leader for Astralis displayed a great deal of confidence in his team in an interview with HLTV.
The matchup also gives Faze a chance for payback after their loss against Astralis in the group stages. On the other side, G2 and MOUZ are facing each other to secure a spot in the grand finals.
