Rumors floating around upcoming PlayStation games say Sony is currently in talks internally regarding a summer showcase. However, before fans get excited about new PS5 exclusives, the company seems to be torn between a showcase or another State of Play and the decision can be the difference maker for focus on third-party games or first-party installments.
Popular game journalist and insider ‘Jeff Grubb’ brought forward the news during a podcast saying, “Internally it sounds like they’re debating, and flopping between, maybe making something this summer a full showcase versus another State of Play. But they are considering a showcase.”
PlayStation fans may finally get first-party games
Started back in 2020, the PlayStation showcase is how Sony mainly reveals its big titles now. This means showcase means gamers will likely get some big announcements that were left out during the most recent State of Play in February.
Games like the Wolverine, Bungie’s Marathon, Ghost of Yotei, and a few others are some of the most awaited game announcements/reveals that people expected earlier. “If they have a showcase, that means they’ll have a lot of stuff to talk about. And at that point, you would definitely expect to see Wolverine and a lot of other games that could come out next year,” he added.

Sony’s PlayStation is in a weird situation
While Sony’s console, PS5 is topping charts and dominating the competition, the first-party title output has decreased a lot which has been the main complaint. Recent earnings report revealed PlayStation saw the best every quarter with over 9 million console sales which led PS5 to a whopping 75 million sales mark.
On the other hand, Microsoft's Xbox, one of its biggest competitors now has more games coming this year than first-party PlayStation games. Maybe this will change with the upcoming summer showcase, but for now, things remain the same.
