Sony PlayStation confirmed their plans to revive the classic game franchises. Speculations regarding which game is going to be make a comeback in the upcoming year have increased among the fans.

Recently, Sony PlayStation confirmed their plans to revive the classic game franchises. Reports suggest that Sony is considering the idea of reviving it's classic game franchises. As per an interview conducted by the Japanese video game franchise Famitsu, Hermen Hulst, an executive at Sony Interactive Entertainment, mentioned that the company is envisioning the future of classic games, which may give a new direction to them.

Speculations regarding which game is going to be make a comeback in the upcoming year have increased among the fans. With the success of Astro Bot, the importance of games like God of War and Unchartered 2 have come to the forefront.  

In the interview, Hulst said, “The numerous IP holdings we hold are important assets for PlayStation, and as part of our efforts to strengthen our portfolio, we are continuously looking at opportunities to leverage past IPs, as well as developing new franchises.” 

He further added that the company is aiming at releasing games developed by the best developers irrespective of them being a part of the Sony PlayStation studios, which is also an opportunity for other developers. They also cleared that they had ‘many successes so far’ on this approach. Reviving old franchises is not a new conception and had many Japanese Gaming companies are also using this approach to reach out and retain their audiences.  

Why did Sony decide to bring back classic game franchise?

It is yet to be seen which franchises will make a comeback. It is also interesting to see that the doors are not closed for the longstanding fans of the studio. Hulst also dropped a few hints on the collaboration of Sony with Team Ninja and other external studios. The decision of the revival can also be justified keeping in view the massive commercial success Astro Bot whose popularity was widespread across the gaming world.
