Classic Sonic games are skyrocketing in price following the success of Sonic the Hedgehog movies, especially with the third installment in the series. Featuring stars like Jim Carrey, Idris Elba, and Keanu Reeves, the movie was a massive hit and has reportedly revitalized the video game franchise.
The classic games aren’t currently available through official means so the resellers are having a field day with a surge in demand. A report from comicbook reveals that before the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in theaters, Sonic Adventure 2 for Sega Dreamcast was priced at $120 which has now jumped well over $200.
Such is the case across various other platforms where the game was released. The more rare the platform is, the higher the current selling price. Xbox and PlayStation copies of Shadow the Hedgehog are also currently hovering between $60 to $90 while the Game Cube version crosses $150.

Sonic movies bump prices with each release
Before the release of Sonic the Hedgehog movies, the regular prices for these games were somewhere around $10. However, as the comic book revealed, a noticeable bump started back in 2020, following the release of the first Sonic movie, bringing the prices to $20 to $30.

Another big change came after heading into 2022 with the second release which was much more significant and reached the pricing of modern AAA games at $60. The third installment of the Sonic movie series also followed the same trend and created an all-time high price for these classic games.
Many might wonder why these games are selling for so much price, after all, they are just video games. To put it simply, physical copies of these games aren’t available through official means leaving these re-sellers to do what they want. The more a game is in demand with no official supply, the higher the pricing gets and those who like to collect these games often pay these absurd prices.
