Fans of the Harry Potter franchise are in luck as a sequel of the Hogwarts Legacy is now in development. This is thanks to its massive success on release back in 2023. The original game reportedly has crossed 30 million sales worldwide and was one of the reasons why Warner Bros. is delving further into the franchise.
This revelation was made in an interview with Variety on Wizards of Baking. During the interview, the president of Warner Bros, David Haddad broke the news revealing that the games division is working on a sequel that is labelled as a “very big priority”.
“We have known for some time that fans are looking for more things in this world, and so we’re spending a lot of time thinking about that,” said Haddad. “Our insights tell us that there are not huge distinctions between a younger version of a fan and an older version of a fan. They’re just deep ‘Harry Potter’ fans, and we try to build authentic experiences to delight them,” added.

He further went on to reveal that the game development team is coordinating with other departments for ‘big-picture storytelling elements’ in the Hogwarts Legacy sequel that will play out in the upcoming Harry Potter series.
This strong push once again into the Harry Potter franchise was particularly thanks to the success of the game. The concept of having the game and series align is an interesting idea. Hogwarts Legacy told a different story from what many people grew up with, and bringing some iconic characters can be a great ingredient for success. Hopefully, it won't be something like playing the game to figure out the series or vice versa.
Regarding the involvement of J.K. Rowling, it was confirmed that she is not involved. This was also the case for the previous game, which received some backlash from some people. Although, any big changes are communicated through her agents. “If we’re going to ever go beyond a canon conversation, we make sure that we’re all comfortable with what we’re doing,” said Robert Oberschelp, WB’s Discovery’s head of global consumer products
