Pokemon TCG Pocket reaches 100 million downloads

The Pokemon franchise is known to take over the masses with some incredible games and the most recent talk of the tow is Pokemon TCG Pocket. Released back in October 2024, the game has now crossed over 100 million downloads. The news was shared by the developers through an official post on Pokémon Day.

“What a fantastic way to celebrate Pokemon Day today! Thank you to everyone for your continued support; it's genuinely appreciated. We look forward to celebrating this community and any future milestones in this new year. We hope you continue to enjoy our game!” the post said.

This virtual card collector game has people hooked on collecting every Pokemon in existence, after all, gotta collect 'em all. The last time a Pokemon game took over on mobile was Pokemon GO. Apart from collecting them, players can also engage in battles using their decks.

100 million downloads in just four months

Reaching 100 million downloads in just four months is a massive achievement. However, card games, if well done have a huge audience. Yu-Gi-Oh!, Balatro, etc. are good examples showcasing the popularity of card games. Many even have a competitive scene, something Pokemon TCG players are asking for.

While there are plans to add a ranked mode, a competitive scene isn’t currently in the books as per Pokemon Company director of global esports, ‘Chris Brown’. “We’re always looking at different titles. But at this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things,” Brown said in an interview with VGC.

More to come in future Pokemon TCG Pocket updates

Since its release, Pokemon TCG Pocket has pushed several updates and there’s a lot more to come in the future. While the updates in general have been praised, not every change was a hit. The addition of trading was heavily criticized, mostly due to how it was implemented. Fans are still asking for a change.
