Sony has reportedly cancelled two unannounced live-service games for PlayStation. One was a God of War live service title being developed by Bluepoint Games while the other game was an untitled entry under development by Bend Studio. This comes less than a month after PlayStation announced its focus on live-service games.
In a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, a company spokesperson revealed that the two games were cancelled. The specific reasoning behind this decision was not provided, it was said that the decisions were made after a review so one can assume that the games were not as fun or unique as the initial idea.
The development studios behind the decision are not affected as per the report. “Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine what are the next projects,” the spokesperson said.

Is Sony done with live service games?
Despite another two projects being shut down, Sony is still pursuing the live-service path for PlayStation first-party games. It seems that the success of Helldivers 2 and the failure of Concord last year have left the company with a winning formula which sadly these two projects did not pass.
That isn’t to say PlayStation will abandon single-player titles. Those remain a core part of why people love PlayStation games and the company plans on keeping the ball rolling. With a game tied to a big name (God of War) and a new IP being shut down, it remains to be seen what live more Sony has in the bag.
The company recently established a new PlayStation studio in Los Angeles, California, and recently started looking for gaming industry veterans to create a completely new ‘groundbreaking’ AAA game IP from scratch. More details on that is also yet to be revealed.
