Xbox head Phil Spencer says they are not trying to bring players to the Xbox, instead, they want more people to enjoy games where they want. The company recently decided to bring exclusives across multiple platforms while also putting a major focus on the Game Pass subscription which allows people to play any game.

While the Game Pass does sound like a good deal, many have argued that Xbox is trying to sway people into buying the subscription when they don’t own the game. Game ownership has been a long-running debate on the subject and video game preservation with companies pushing live-service games and a lack of offline play even when they are single-player.

“I’m not trying to move them all over to Xbox anymore. We’re all so invested in where our games are, let’s just allow more people to play,” Phil said during an interview with XboxEra.

“You can buy every game that’s in Game Pass, we’re not trying to funnel everybody into one business model. Play the games the way you want to play them. We obviously have to run a good business, so we’ll have our pricing and everything that we do, but I want to make as many options as possible for our games,” he added.

Xbox embracing cloud gaming and PC release

Cloud gaming as per Phil has been one of the most popular ways to play video games along with increasing numbers of PC users. The Asian region has been a great example as per the Xbox head who revealed the consoles are not selling much but cloud gaming has seen increasing users.

“One of our fastest growing regions for us right now is Asia and it’s not because we’re selling more consoles in Asia, but through cloud and PC, we’re finding more users year over year than in any other place,” he added.

Is Xbox giving up on hardware?

One of the biggest questions is with the decision to not have any exclusives, will Xbox also move away from consoles? This, however, does not seem to be the case as Microsoft still hasn’t given up on their console. While the company is embracing multiple ways to play games, its console remains an important part.
