Overwatch 2 has seen its highs and lows, but the current situation is a bit mind-boggling. On one side, players are celebrating the crackdown on console players using mouse and keyboards, while on the other side, players are getting banned for even a little profanity in chat.

In a recent blog post, Blizzard revealed that they will be working to detect “unapproved peripherals”. Players using these unapproved peripherals will not be banned but will be handed some restrictions.

The first time a player is detected using these devices will be handed a competitive cooldown. Restricted players will, however, be able to play casual and other game modes. The second time the same player is detected using the unapproved peripherals, they will be losing the aim assist and will be matched against other players with mouse and keyboards for the entire season.

“Our goal is for Overwatch 2 to be a great experience no matter what platform you play on. The game feels best when matches are close and competitive, and everyone plays on a level playing field,” the post stated.

For players currently using these peripherals, Blizzard has issued a warning of a permanent ban. Players have highly welcomed this change, as top-tier lobbies in ranked matches always have players using these devices and gaining an advantage over others.

Unapproved peripherals aren’t the only way to get banned

On the other side of the spectrum, players are reported for getting banned even for slighted profanity in chat during the game. Any form of swearing seems to be against the rules of Overwatch 2. Even players who were complimenting others and had a swear word in their text aren’t spared.

Players believe it’s the new AI filter that is handling these bans without any discrimination or how these words are used. What’s even wilder is players are even getting banned for saying GG or NS (nice shot) or any other regular words.

Players believe all this does is further stop others from communicating in what is supposed to be a team-based competitive game, where communication is possibly the biggest strength for any team. With two different takes on the game by the developers themselves, players are getting confused about what to do.
