A significant PC update for Grand Theft Auto 5 is scheduled for the upcoming weeks. In addition to providing PC gamers with the "next-gen" features that were previously available only on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Grand Theft Auto 5, publisher Rockstar Games will also make the update available for free on the platform.
Although, GTA 5 was first published on the PS3 and Xbox 360 over 12 years ago, Rockstar Games has just re-launched the immensely popular open-world game on a number of platforms. Grand Theft Auto 5 was ported to the PS4 and Xbox One a little more than a year after its initial release. The game made a comeback to the PC in 2015. PC players no longer had to play the ultimate version of Grand Theft Auto 5 as they did for years after Rockstar launched the game on modern platforms such the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022.
This version of Grand Theft Auto 5 outperforms the PS4 and Xbox One versions and had a number of extra features that weren't even available on the PC. However, Rockstar stated that it would update Grand Theft Auto 5 for PC to meet the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, nearly three years later. The most significant enhancement intended for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 is the use of ray-traced shadows and reflections.
It's interesting to note that Rockstar will only include global lighting and ray-traced ambient occlusion to GTA 5 on PC. Upscaling methods like AMD FSR 1, FSR3, and Nvidia DLSS 3, quicker loading times for SSD users, enhanced support for higher framerates, resolutions, aspect ratios, and more have all been validated. GTA Online gamers on PC will also get access to Hao's Special Works, where they can make the "best-in-class" modifications to their vehicles, in addition to the technological enhancements. The PC version of GTA Online will get five new vehicles and 20 current cars that can be tuned using Hao's Special Works.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is expected release soon
HSW Races, HSW Time Trials, and Premium Test Rides will also be available to players. This free update also brings Rockstar's controversial GTA+ subscription service to PCs. Concerning the date of release, the improved PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 is expected to be available for free to existing players on March 4.
