The game industry reportedly has fingers crossed hoping that Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) releases with a $100 price tag. Industry analyst, Matthew Ball in his report highlighted that the companies are looking to survive through the rising development costs of games. GTA 6 seemingly provides a great opportunity to raise game prices.

For now, games usually hover around the $70 mark and to reach that $100 price, companies usually have to put up some extra perks like expansions, early access, and other things to make it seem justifiable. However, the truth is that the gaming industry is a very competitive market.

As noted by VGC, the extensive report titled State of Video Gaming in 2025 (Epyllion) highlights a lot of things and gives an incredible insight into what happened in the last few years and what may happen. Of course, a large section also discussed the rising costs and how GTA 6 can change a lot of things.

The hype around GTA 6 is unmatched and Take-Two can easily incentivize and put a new price tag on the game, at least that’s what the gaming industry hopes as per the report. “Some gamemakers hope GTA 6 will be priced at $80 to $100, breaking the $70 barrier and helping $50 titles to move up to $60, $60 to do $70, $70 to $80, etc,” Ball states which is something Michael Douse also stated last year.

Will GTA 6 cost $100?

There is no information on the price for GTA 6, however, it's likely the game will not be your average $70 release. For now, it’s safe to assume a $100 price which the gamers will most likely pay, but the same can’t be said in the case of other gaming companies.

While Take-Two may fulfill their wishes for a new price for AAA games, it is ultimately the companies that will have to match up to GTA 6 as stated by industry expert Destin Legarie. For gamers to pay a premium price, the companies should be able to back that price.

“Rockstar have consistently delivered exceptional games with their core releases and they’re not afraid to spend a decade plus on them. If they were to release at $100 it’s because they’ve earned that trust,” Legarie said responding to the report.

It will be a classic Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate story. When some of the best games like these are made available for $60, people argue how can a game like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League or Redfall ask for the same price. Likely, the $100 price for GTA 6 will not result in a 1:1 price change but rather companies may slightly bum their prices, i.e for $70 to $80 for a change.
