Another disappointing run for Faze Clan and G2 Esports as they faced an early elimination at IEM Rio. Both teams started with an opening loss and were left struggling in the lower brackets. While Faze did manage to reach a lower bracket final, G2 Esports faced back-to-back losses against Heroic and Eternal Fire.

G2’s loss also comes a week after the team dominated BLAST Premier Fall Final and came as a huge shock and confusion among fans. One of the star players for the team, Niko, was not looking in form and finished the tournament with a 0.47 rating and the least amount of kills among his teammates.

IEM Rio quarterfinals started with a best-of-one with Heroic on a strong start, but G2 managed to catch up slowly. Sadly, it wasn’t fast enough to secure the match and the team was sent to the lower brackets against Eternal Fire, who lost against Astralis.

Eternal Fire took the best-of-three by a landslide and dominated G2, who mustered 10 rounds out of the two matches played. Returning home, the team now awaits BLAST World Finals 2024 set to take place in November.

FaZe players getting rusty?

Opposite to G2, Faze hasn’t looked alive for the entirety of 2024 with the team barely managing to go against good teams. The team lost the initial match to FURIA, who to be honest had the home crowd buff. The following matches against Pain Gaming and Team Liquid were a breeze, leading them to the lower bracket finals.

The team lost to MOUZ ending their final chance to make it into the playoffs. During the match, Faze never really gained control of the situation, with their opponents countering every move. The team does have some of the longest-running players, which may have become predictable to the opponents.

As of now, Six teams are locked in for the Playoffs with FURIA and Heroic both securing a direct spot in the semifinals. The quarterfinals will see Team Vitality against MOUZ and NaVi against Virtus.pro.
