Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launched a few days ago and has already become the most popular single-player game in the franchise. The game reached an all-time peak player count of over 40,000 which is the highest for any Final Fantasy (SP) game. Along with that, Red Dead Redemption 2 also reached a new all-time peak player count.

Rockstar Games seem to be making up for the regional price increase of Red Dead Redemption 2 with their most recent Steam sale bringing the price to an all-time low. Naturally, gamers who were unhappy with the price increase seem to have mellowed out and are picking up the game.

What’s fascinating is that there seem to be a lot of new players for RDR2 on Steam which led the game to a new all-time peak player count. As per SteamDB, the game reached over 86,000 concurrent players for the first time since its release on Steam back in late 2019.

Fans argue Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth could have reached much higher

Despite being one of the beloved game franchises, Final Fantasy 7 games usually remain PlayStation-exclusive for a year or two before landing on PC. Fans now argue that same-day release on PC would bring the numbers much higher, likely crossing six digits.

The next game in the Final Fantasy 7 trilogy, however, will likely not be a next-gen console exclusive. As revealed by game producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi in an interview with Genki, future Final Fantasy games are expected to be released across multiple platforms including PC and Xbox.

It wasn’t all sunshine with the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth release and there were still complaints regarding performance issues. This isn’t something uncommon with recent AAA game releases but fans likely expected more from a popular video game franchise.
