Following a huge uproar in the Apex Legend community, Electronic Arts (EA) has decided to slow down its aggressive monetization changes in Apex Legends. Maybe the company was checking how far they could go without being criticized for charging double for the Battle Pass, regardless, the community were not having any of that.

For those who still aren’t in the loop, EA announced that Season 22 of Apex Legends will be bringing some changes to the Battle Pass. Instead of one single lengthy Battle Pass to grind, it is now divided into two with individual purchases. The problem was that players were not allowed to purchase the Battle Pass with Apex Coins, as they were made $10 each.

The reaction was quite expected as the players refused to spend $20 each season as many would make the $10 payment for Apex coins and grind those coins back from the battle pass to buy one in the next season. The already degrading player experience for players due to cheating issues had already pushed the community to the edge.

Furthermore, it was also pointed out by the community that EA’s claim to “improve player experience and progression,” was also not relevant, despite the Battle Pass levels cutting in half, the time to complete them is also half. However, the Battle Pass Challenges are still to be revealed.

Apex Legends backtracks on monetization

Following the community backlash, EA has provided another update regarding the changes to win back the upset community. In a recent post on X, the company wrote, “You’ve spoken, we listened. With the release of Season 22, we will restore the ability to get the Premium Battle Pass with 950 Apex coins.”

Although, it is not completely backtracked. The new Ultimate and Ultimate+ tiers are still available to those who want to purchase using real-world currency. However, bringing back the original option is currently enough for the community, as they call it a ‘W’ decision from Apex.
