Popular social platform Discord has announced a new virtual currency that can be earned through quests. They recently launched Discord Orbs, a new virtual currency that can be used to buy digital items. As the platform continues to evolve in a big way, this is one of the latest additions. Many users have already been invited to the beta test and are asked to give a review.

This can be obtained when the users complete the promotional quests. The users who engage with the advertisers will receive these, and the brands decide the rewards, like Avatars, decorations and in-game bonuses. Discord orbs can be spent on the Discord shop, and gamers will be able to get digital goods on the platform, which include special badges or 3-day passes for Discord Nitro. Currently, there are only selected items that have access to Discord Orbs, but in the coming months, more items will be added.

In 2025, Discord made some big changes, like the Ignore feature, which is used in a gentler way to block people. This doesn't block any people, but they won't see any messages from people who were ignored. But some users are not happy about the new interface of Discord after March, which lacked visuals and performance. They also rolled out a new update that verifies the age in the United Kingdom and Australia. It will have a facial scanning system or upload the ID via QR code.
The information will be used for one-time age verification and won't be stored in the company’s servers. We are still waiting to see how the new Discord orbs feature works with the users in real time. This platform is mostly used by gamers and streamers who link their gaming accounts and build communities. Many leading game developers like Roblox also have Discord accounts where they chat with their gaming community members in real time.
