Cheating in video games has become a new normal in the current online gaming world. Each day, millions of cheaters emerge out of nowhere and spoil the real essence of gaming. Counter Strike co-founder has called this cheating in video games an ‘Epidemic’. Especially in the online world, game developers encounter thousands of cheaters, and they are very hard to control. These cheaters have infiltrated many popular games like Elden Ring, Monster Hunter: wild by occupying the top of the leaderboards with unnatural point numbers.

Cheating is an 'Epidemic'
Minh Le, the co-creator of Counter Strike, said, “It’s an epidemic, because 20 years ago, when Counter Strike was first out, cheating was a bit of an issue. But it never reached the levels that it is right now. Back when I was working on Counter-Strike, I would play the game, I would probably encounter a cheater maybe 5 per cent of the time, maybe 10 per cent.”
He admitted that the cheating has crossed all the boundaries, and it is now at a dangerous level. Minh le added, “These days, when I’m jumping on a multiplayer game, it’s like maybe 40 per cent or 50 per cent of the time I’m running into some dubious (stuff) going on. As a player, you don't want to play games that have that, and as a developer, you don't want to make a game that’s being ruined by this. It’s a really big challenge, and it’s a challenge that we’ve been trying to address for 20 years.”

CS is one of the most popular online shooter games, and it has 1,000,000 players playing in a 24-hour period. There were many actions taken by the game developers in the last few years, but nothing is working against these millions of infiltrators. Black Ops 6 claimed that it has banned over 19 thousand accounts for cheating. Marvel Rivals has begun booting cheaters mid-game. Riot Games has its own shield that kicks cheating communities out. But still, the issue of cheating in Multiplayer online games persists, and the developers are only giving temporary solutions to what is being called an Epidemic.
