Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly slammed India’s batting approach during their recent tour of Australia. Team India managed to score above 250 on just three occasions during the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy. The best total scored during the five-match series for India was the 487 as they scored in the second innings of the Perth Test match.

Sourav Ganguly wasn’t happy with the way the batters went about their job. The former India skipper as quoted by India today said, “We did not bat well; we have to bat well in Test cricket. If you do not bat well, you will not win Test matches. If you score 170, 180, you cannot win Test matches. You have to score 350-400. No one can be blamed. Everyone has to score runs."

While speaking about Virat Kohli’s form, the 52-year-old said, “I don’t understand. He is such a great player. But I am sure he will overcome this problem.” Virat Kohli has been under the microscope for his constant failures to deliveries outside off-stump. Scott Boland twice got rid of India’s former skipper using the same ploy at the SCG.

Sunil Gavaskar unsure of top player’s playing in domestic cricket

After Indian coach Gautam Gambhir urged players to take domestic cricket seriously, yet another former star has had his say. Sunil Gavaskar during a chat with India Today is unsure about how many players will actually take the advice seriously. The 75-year-old has asked everyone to take the ‘Wait and watch approach’ regarding the advice.

Sunil Gavaskar said to India Today “Well, we will find out whether it’s lip service. There is some domestic cricket happening in the next 15 days. We will find out whether what the coach wants actually happens and what the players do. There are some players who have taken their places for granted, thinking they cannot be dropped, no matter what. Let us see if they obey the coach’s call and play. Let’s wait and see."

Currently Indian domestic season is witnessing the Vijay Hazare Trophy taking place. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could look at the tournament as a right tune-up for the series against England and also Champions Trophy 2025 if their teams qualify for the knock out phase.
